David Marshall — Biography
David Marshall brings more than three decades of experience in residential design, construction, and architectural coordination. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, David began his career in the building trades as an apprentice carpenter immediately after graduating high school in 1985. Through hands-on experience and a strong technical curiosity, he developed a deep understanding of residential construction that would shape his professional path.
By the late 1980s David’s expanding skills led him into kitchen design, where he began combining his carpentry background with spatial planning and cabinetry design. While continuing to refine his construction expertise, he expanded into residential design work, producing plans for kitchens, decks, additions, and eventually full custom homes for contractors throughout the Boston area.
In 1991, David became a licensed General Contractor in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Over the following years he developed extensive experience translating architectural concepts into detailed, buildable solutions, particularly in areas requiring precise millwork, cabinetry, and architectural detailing.
From 1993 through 2009 David focused on the design, sale, and installation of custom kitchens and bathrooms for private clients, referrals, and general contractors. In 2001 he founded DM Design Co., Inc., a company specializing in residential design and custom cabinetry. Through this work he developed substantial expertise in cabinetry design, architectural millwork, and the preparation of detailed shop drawings used during construction.
In 2011 David was introduced to the client of a large waterfront residential project in Osterville, Massachusetts. For that project he formed Marston Mills Custom Homes LLC, serving as the builder responsible for the construction of the residence. The project involved the development of a substantial custom home on a prime beachfront site and required extensive coordination of architectural details, construction systems, and interior millwork.
Following completion of that project, David continued to work as an independent designer and consultant on residential projects, focusing on architectural planning, cabinetry design, lighting design, and complex renovation work. During this period he also expanded his capabilities through advanced 3D modeling and rendering, allowing clients and builders to visualize projects with accuracy prior to construction.
David became a licensed General Contractor in the State of Florida in 2016. His work since that time has included participation in the planning, design coordination, and construction of custom residential projects.
In June 2023 David relocated full-time to South Florida where he continues his work in residential design and construction.
Through DM Design + Build, David now brings together his experience in architectural design, construction management, and technical detailing. His work spans ground-up custom homes, waterfront residences, renovations, and highly detailed interior millwork projects. His approach combines the perspective of a designer with the practical knowledge of a builder, allowing him to guide projects from concept through construction with a clear understanding of both design intent and buildability.
